I was born in Connecticut, grew up in Illinois and am currently living
in New York. I have been creating "collages out of context"
for more than 20 years in an attempt to make some sense out of the senseless,
to fit together the jagged pieces of the jigsaw, to capture in pictures,
photos, and postcards along with fragments and snippets of phrases,
paragraphs, prose and poetry the ephemeral essence of people, places
and things that make up this wide wonderful universe of galactic possiblities.
. In the process of discovery I am seeking to pinpoint the ineffable
and freeze frame the ephemeral while floating in midair, defying gravity
and the powers that be. Each collage can be viewed as an episode, a
moment to moment transition between epiphany and eternity, an endless
journey from here to there that is neither "here nor there"
and never reaches a conclusion because this is only a brief step on
the journey that never ends... The collages are not in sequential or chronological order, and any
representations of reality or unreality are due merely to coincidence,
chance and the randomness of womb roulette. At the end of the day, I am still seeking answers to the unanswerable, solutions to the insoluble within the cauldron mixing the blatant and the hidden, the sacred and the profane. And so I invite you to probe the inner workings of works that are as fragmentary and elusive as they are cosmic, compelling, disorienting and disturbing. Like some yearning for a time long ago, these collages represent a search for the unsullied innocence and pure nostalgia of childhood. And never to forget that "if what we think about our past experiences is false, is the basis of our identity also an illusion?" So welcome to my website where I invite you to come often and linger often in contemplation or meditation while pondering whatever profound meanings and/or laughable absurdities may be revealed here. Any comments, criticisms, insights, etc are always appreciated and I am forever grateful that you stopped by to have a look. Thank you and I wish you continued success in your endeavors--JD Siskin |
